Seeking the True Treasure by Monika Dabrowska-Ejmont

MonikaShe is like the cloud of shimmering beauty drifting in the depths of the ocean.

She is the seeker!   She is curious!   She is determined!

She is fragile looking, translucent and dreamy but strong at the same time!

That is how, I think, my story would start… and I am sure she would meet a sweet underwater kitty somewhere along the way.

Who knows maybe she can be my friend?

Today while I write this, the whole rain thing is making my mind float away to nice places .  Or maybe it’s just this yummy blue Celedon Silks acrylic glaze that has me inspired?!

Soooo ladies and gentleman! Here she is and she is ” Seeking the true treasures”.

Mixed Media Copic Cards by Robyn Wood

RobynHi, it’s Robyn here. Join me as I combine some simple mixed media techniques with Copic markers to create four gorgeous cards.  You will learn how to create four basic backgrounds with your markers, using variations on a technique and then incorporate them into cards that can be used for a variety of occasions.

One supply that you might need to source is rubbing alcohol, in Australia it is available in supermarkets and pharmacies as ‘Isocol’. If you have it, Copic Colorless Blending Solution is perfect. Please do not substitute Ranger Blending Solution (for alcohol ink techniques) in your spray bottle as it can be dangerous to spray.

Lulu Art – Design Team Announcement

There were some incredibly talented ladies that applied for the design team this round.  I had a very hard time narrowing it down to a shortlist, then an even harder time choosing from a bunch of ladies who all well and truly deserved to be on the team! I had to expand the team to 5 to make the decision a tiny bit easier.

In the end the decisions were made based on gaining a diversity of styles to give our blog readers more variety and the ability to learn more techniques.

I gave my previous team the chance to reapply and two had other commitments but I’m pleased to say that Monika Dabrowska-Ejmont and Robyn Wood are continuing on with this new term.

I’m delighted to announce that our 3 new members are Wendy Walsh, Kooky Makes and Karen Knight.  I am very excited to see what wonderful things our new team creates.

So you can get to know these three new ladies a little better here is a little more about them and some examples of recent work (click on the thumbnail to view larger versions of the photos).

What are you currently creating?
At present I am organising an art envelope swap, which involves many creative participants from around the world. I am also creating a series of art to be sold in a friends shop that sells products appropriate for children. I have learnt to professionally reproduce my artwork on archival paper (giclee) and will be selling my artwork in the near future.

What are your “go to” products right now?
I love to use acrylic paint and prismacolour pencils. However, water-colour and ink designs plus collage also intrigue me. I am always up for a challenge. Using different mediums and approaches keeps me inspired and constantly learning. I have found that quality paper and brushes are a must.

How would you describe your style?
I believe my style always comes out in all my work. I love whimsy, through to quirky, contemplative through to humorous. I like to paint with a happy heart and hope that my work generates the same feeling in the viewer.

What are you currently creating?
I have 2 art journals on the go, a large canvas for a friend, several hand made journals in progress, wedding invitations & decorations for another friend and am part of 3 currently running on-line art courses. I am also making a bag & a dress and a submission for a local art gallery.

What are your “go to” products right now?
My favourite products at the moment are gesso, watercolour (including pencils) and pastels.

How would you describe your style?
My overall design style is high key shabby chic at the moment. I really enjoy pastel schemes with pops of colour and muted backgrounds with strong accents.

What are you currently creating?
Currently working on an art journal in tag format.

What are your “go to” products right now?
Distress inks and markers, crackle paint , collage sheets and of course stamps!

How would you describe your style?
I would say its a little bit vintage/grunge but clean and simple at the same time. Also love a bit of colour at times too.

Resist Canvas Journal Cover by Anne Cahill

I hope you are all keeping cool if you’re in one of the crazy hot areas of Australia today.  I’ve hidden inside in front of the air conditioning for the whole day except for a quick dash outside to the clothesline.  The poor air conditioner can hardly cope!

This year I am determined to find more balance in my life – in particular finding more time to be creative.  Creativity has taken a back seat lately while I was building the business but it needs to start riding shotgun again!  I’ve taken the time today to start on one of my first classes for the year – Week 1 of Lifebook 2014.  I have to admit, even though I made the time to do it today, I procrastinated like crazy .. maybe a little fear or inner critic creeping in there after all that time? Anyway, I finally went for it and at least got my sketch done ready to be painted tomorrow when I get some more time.  Now I’ve started I feel so much better and realise how much I miss having a regular creative side to my life.

Anne CahillToday I want to show you this absolutely beautiful Art Journal Cover made by our lovely design team member Anne Cahill.  Anne has used the Prima Resist journal covers with Dylusions Ink Sprays and Acrylic Paints to create this dreamy project.  Those ink sprays are so vibrant and even when watered down they still give the most amazing results. I can’t wait to give this a try.

Gelato’s Art Journal Page by Cassandra Bright

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a lovely start to your New Year.  Did you all get some arty presents? Hopefully you’ve at least had some time off work to spend on your projects.  I’ve had a little bit of time off and now I’m relaxed and ready to embark on several online art courses I’ve enrolled in for this year.  If you’re still looking for a good course to do this year I can thoroughly recommend any of the following:

  • Lifebook 2014 – a year long course with weekly lessons and many well known mixed media artists (starting now)
  • Book of Days 2014 – 12 week art journaling course with Effy Wild (starts Jan 6th)
  • 21 Secrets 2014 – You get 21 lessons at once from 21 amazing mixed media teachers (launches April 1st)
  • Donna Downey 48 Weeks – a year long art journaling course with Donna Downey (starting now)

CassTo kick off our design team projects for the year we have a lovely colourful art journal project from our design team member Cassandra Bright.  Cassandra has made use of some yummy products like the Gelatos, Tim Holtz & Artist Cellar stencils and Donna Downey stamps.  I love the way Cassandra has used the stencils to remove the colour in some spaces as well as using them to add colour. Very clever!
