Under the Sea by Wendy Walsh

IMG_4411Hi Everyone,

My family and I have just returned home from holidaying in Cairns, Australia. A lengthy visit to the Great Barrier Reef involving plenty of snorkelling was a magical experience all my family will remember forever.

Inspired by this experience came the ideas for this art piece/video.

Using inks, water and seeing images in abstract watery marks is where it starts. Creating images and finishing them off with mixed media is where it finishes. The process is so much fun as it allowed me to immerse myself in my wondrous memories of the Barrier Reef and all its glory.

Enjoy this video and thank you for watching it.

May the awe of nature fill your heart and soul today and everyday.

The following photos provide you with insight into the inky journey.

How to Draw Your Dragon by Kooky Makes

Kooky_picHi everyone,
Today I’m going to share my How to Draw Your Dragon secrets. I’ve always had a bit of thing about dragons but it only occurred to me recently that they would make a great addition to my art journal. Although many stories about dragons suggest they are beasts to be afraid of I’ve always imagined them as representing the wise and noble parts of ourselves.
The video is mostly my method of drawing a dragon in profile using simple shapes. I then show you how I use the outline to create a dragon with a message to my wise and noble self. I hope you’ll give it a go and add your own frills and decorations.

A Summer Adventure – a textured art journal page by Robyn Wood

RobynIt has turned blustery and cold in Brisbane this week – Winter is here at last, but my Instagram feed reassures me that it is Summertime elsewhere in the world!  I’ve created a textured art journal page to share with you today that uses lots of lovely texture, found words and a bird or two.

a project by Robyn Wood, Purple Salt, www.purplesalt.net

Molding Paste is perfect for adding texture to a journal page – it goes on like butter or thick icing and a thin layer is light enough for a small journal.  Check out how I created the texture using an old, plastic spoon.

My page also features found words which were cut from one of the free magazines which are abundant in my city. I find the non-specific, fashion and event style magazines are the best for a good variety of words.  I started searching with no plan in mind after I had the basic texture and trees done and just let the words jump out at me. Soon enough I had a theme and a title!  It is a fun way of creating journaling.

Little Mermaid by Monika Dabrowska-Ejmont

MonikaHi Monika here 🙂

Don’t you wish sometimes you could be a water creature? Everything in that world sparkles, shimmers and flows.

Maybe I should be the mermaid …

maybe the water horse …

maybe a gracious dolphin?

Maybe not for all the time but for a day in my life I would love to be one of them. For now I can just dream and paint my dreams. I hope you enjoy my project today called Little Mermaid.  It’s painted over three small canvases.

You Are Enough by Karen Knight

Hi guys,

Karen with you again, and another tag to share with you today. I  fell in love with the Dina Wakley stamps the minute I saw them,  I absolutely love the look of the scribbled ladies, but I tend to struggle a little when I try to create things that have been done with complete creative abandon, so I knew sooner or later they would end up on a tag, and here it is.

I’ve teamed them up with another favourite – Distress paints, I juts love how fluid these are and how well they mix with a little spritz of water!

Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you are all having a wonderfully creative week!

Autumn Collage and Stencil by Wendy Walsh

IMG_4411Happy Autumn to you all ..

Here in Melbourne we are having the most amazing Autumn. The temperature here is unusually mild and the colour of the leaves on so many trees are glorious! It has inspired me to create the following project. I have used a basic combination of collage, a stencil (Jane Davenport) and Transfer Artist Paper and embellished away with acrylic, pencils and inks…..Happy…..happy…..Autumn days.

I hope this finds you enjoying the change of season and your art and that the following video provides lots of juicy inspiration.

Here’s a few snapshots before you watch the video:

Vintage Soul by Robyn Wood

Robyn‘She was a modern woman with a vintage soul – she came from a different time’

Hello, it’s Robyn with you today sharing how to create a colourful She Art canvas using a bunch of mixed media techniques.  This canvas is inspired by the She Art of Christy Tomlinson, although I hate to admit that I’ve had the girl stamp sitting in my stash for far too long. I suppose she was just waiting for the perfect project to make an appearance in!

As part of this project, I’m also sharing how I use a technique of free journaling – trying to make a phrase out of a few interesting words. Each time I try this technique I come up with a different phrase – what will yours be?
