I love poppy flowers, they are always taking me back to my childhood. I remember our veggie patch in which grandma just spread poppy seeds randomly and they were growing between carrots, potatoes, strawberries. Always standing taller than the rest of the plants on their hairy green stems. Bright, bold and also so fragile.
Then in autumn they were turning in to brown, rattling hard heads, still beautiful in their own way. And then Christmas time we had a delicious poppy seed cake. I wish I was good at painting realistic flowers…or animals …. or anything. But since I am not :)) I just used this Ronda’s fragment stencil to create poppies with a twist. There is still red and green and brown and black, all the colours I remember from childhood, so it makes me happy. And my kitty was there to help me to recreate the childhood feelings and also make new happy memories.
It’s the end of the year already! Really?!! It snuck up on me! Too fast! Too quick! So much happened this year, so much changed! I learnt a lot, I pushed my boundaries a few times and I grew from it 🙂 I acquired lots of new art supplies too :), one new kitten 🙂 and I made new friends.
Did I make time to stop and reflect about it? To be thankful for what I have in my life? To cherish all the beautiful people in my life? Not always, not everyday! But I am trying to make it in to a good habit because it keeps me focused, keeps me sane, reminds me to be happy now!
Art keeps me sane and happy too, so I thought – why not combine both and create myself a reminder of how amazing life really is 🙂 I have sooooo much to be grateful for every day, month, year!
For me my Journal is a perfect place for it as I am spending lots of time flicking through it, playing, writing in it.
Maybe it is something you would like to do too ?
Yes! For sure! My life is so much more interesting inside my head!
I can be a princess every day of the week! Or the month or the year! Or I can be the evil Witch…for some of the time 🙂
Dragons, kittens, puppies, fairies, angels, butterflies, bit naughty children and bit ugly trolls are peacefully existing together , we are having fun, we are going on adventures! Goodness me! The stories I can make up inside my head!!! And the colours of it!
I wish you could come and visit me there sometimes :)… Maybe one day … So this journal page is like a postcard I am sending to you from there.

I heard about a book called Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés a few years back from my friend Denise Daffara, but than life was happening in the mean time and I never picked it up to read it. Then my friend Lisa took me to see a beautiful singer called Snez performing at a house concert. I bought her CD and fell in love with her music. I also read her blog and learnt that one of her songs was inspired by that book I had wanted to read! This is the song I love!
So I did read the book ! And I really liked it, it’s inspiring. I especially like the old legends she refers too!
And it amazes me how the things which we should have or see or hear are finding a way to come to us. Sometimes it just takes bit longer. And it’s amazing how people inspire each other every day.
Thank you to all of you beautiful people around me for inspiration, love, encouragement. Hope I can do the same for you .
Don’t you wish sometimes you could be a water creature? Everything in that world sparkles, shimmers and flows.
Maybe I should be the mermaid …
maybe the water horse …
maybe a gracious dolphin?
Maybe not for all the time but for a day in my life I would love to be one of them. For now I can just dream and paint my dreams. I hope you enjoy my project today called Little Mermaid. It’s painted over three small canvases.
There was lot of sewing going on in my house lately. So I got inspired by it. My mumma does it, 🙂 I just watch, admire the colours and touch and feel fabrics, laces, buttons. And I always wonder how it would look if I paint over that pattern or this one? How paint will behave itself on it? What texture I will end up with? What else I can throw on it?
So I decided to give it a go! I made a journal ( notebook, book) cover. You can put on one journal and when you are done with it, you can transfer it on another. Hope you like it.
