Suzi Blu Girl Tag by Karen Knight

Guest_KarenKnight_ProfileThis week we have a surprise guest – Karen Knight.  Karen makes some amazing unique tags and was happy to do one especially for us to share on our blog.  Make sure you check out Karens own blog and have a look at all the other lovely creations on there. She is a very clever girl. Karen says “I have been creating for about the last 13 years. I love all things collage, inky and stamps and enjoy creating mostly on smaller spaces – like tags.”

This week Karen has designed this gorgeous tag using collage and distressing techniques and one of our Suzi Blu stamps called Forgetmenot.

Karen’s Instructions:

“I started off by collaging a tag with book pages.  Then I randomly painted over the top with distress crackle paint. While I waited for the paint to dry I then stamped the Suzi Blu Girl image on another piece of book paper, and roughly coloured her using distress markers.  I also tore two wing type shapes from book paper and coloured them with distress stain.  When everything was dry I adhered them to the tag,  inked the edges using my distress markers. I used walnut stain distress and black soot distress marker around the edges, by swiping if along the edge  and rubbing it with my finger to smudge them both together.  I also smudged the black soot marker in the same way around my stamped image and wings.”

Products Used:

Suzi Blu Stamp – Forgetmenot
Studio – Multi Medium Gloss
Book Sheets/Collage Pack
Tim Holtz Distress Markers – Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Tea Dye, Worn Lipstick, Rusty Hinge
Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint – Picket Fence, Broken China

What a sweet project.  Let me know if you give it a go!

Gelato’s Art Journal Page by Cassandra Bright

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a lovely start to your New Year.  Did you all get some arty presents? Hopefully you’ve at least had some time off work to spend on your projects.  I’ve had a little bit of time off and now I’m relaxed and ready to embark on several online art courses I’ve enrolled in for this year.  If you’re still looking for a good course to do this year I can thoroughly recommend any of the following:

  • Lifebook 2014 – a year long course with weekly lessons and many well known mixed media artists (starting now)
  • Book of Days 2014 – 12 week art journaling course with Effy Wild (starts Jan 6th)
  • 21 Secrets 2014 – You get 21 lessons at once from 21 amazing mixed media teachers (launches April 1st)
  • Donna Downey 48 Weeks – a year long art journaling course with Donna Downey (starting now)

CassTo kick off our design team projects for the year we have a lovely colourful art journal project from our design team member Cassandra Bright.  Cassandra has made use of some yummy products like the Gelatos, Tim Holtz & Artist Cellar stencils and Donna Downey stamps.  I love the way Cassandra has used the stencils to remove the colour in some spaces as well as using them to add colour. Very clever!
