Colour Me Positive – Week 37

CMP_Banner_Wk37.jpg

Welcome to Week 37 of our challenge. The year is flying by so fast! This week is all about CHANGE and how important it is in our lives.  There is a lot of change happening in my life right now and I find it both daunting and exciting at the same time!

We are often resistant to change, but it’s far better to have an open mind to it so we are not taken by surprise and better still for us to realise that if we want our lives to improve then we should actively make changes.

We all have things in our lives we’d like to improve – it might be finances, career, relationships, house, etc. All of us know that nothing will improve by itself. We need to do things differently to make that happen. One never knows what each change may bring. When you turn from your usual path there will be plenty of different opportunities waiting for you. Changes will bring new opportunities for happiness and fulfilment.

What will you change today?

Colour Me Positive – Week 36

CMP_Banner_Wk36

This week my mind has been drifting to TRAVEL as I’ve chatted with a few friends who have either been overseas this month or have been reminiscing about previous trips.

It stirs up something inside me as I find travel to be exhilarating and truly wonderful and it definitely lights a fire inside me. It made me really sit back and think about why I love it and how it fuels my soul.

I find when you get out of your comfort zone and immerse yourself into cultures different from your own, you seem to strengthen your own personal identity, including your values and beliefs, and increase your confidence in how you go about your everyday life. It can broaden your perspectives, not only of the world but also of yourself.

Travel also offers great opportunities to meet new people that you otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to connect with. You engage with the locals, other travellers, making new social connections, or deepening the ones you already have.

Travel makes you step out of your comfort zone. It teaches you to embrace change and accept uncertainty. Who knows what’s around the next corner! But most importantly I think it teaches you to live in the now!

CMP_Wk36

I’m sure I have a gypsy soul .. I have always yearned to explore and travel and have done so at every opportunity and relished every moment. I don’t think I will ever stop wanting that in my life.  Here’s to many more adventures!

This weeks inspiration:

Below is a travel journal I made on a trip with my son and my parents to Greece. I attended an art retreat on the island of Mykonos and the journal was one of our classes over the week (with the lovely Ali Edwards). So much fun collecting bits and pieces while we were travelling and popping them in the journal amongst the photos and notes. I love looking back through and seeing those reminders of special moments.  I encourage anyone who is going on a special trip to keep a journal of sorts .. even if it’s just remembering to collect things along the way and keeping notes so you can put it together when you get home.

TravelJournal.jpg

I also found this great video on YouTube that I thought you might like watch. I love the way this lady has documented her trip!

There are lots of great videos out there for inspiration. Just get on YouTube and do a search for travel journals and you will be tied to the screen for hours so make sure you have you are comfy and have your cuppa ready!

This week I’m super excited to introduce you to our feature artist, Marjie Kemper. Make sure you scroll down to read all about Marjie and her colourful and creative artwork.

Today’s quote is all about being the BEST version of yourself, whatever that might mean to you. Let’s not go about our lives just plodding along passing time. Whatever we are doing we should do it with all our heart and to the best of our abilities. Whatever it is, whatever you’re doing .. be a good one!

Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:

If you had one superpower .. what would it be?

This weeks inspiration:

For this weeks quote Marjie has created a fabulous Art Journal page for us using Dylusions Ink Sprays.  Look at those luscious colours!  Marjie has posted a tutorial on her blog on how she created this page! You can find it here .. https://marjiekemper.com/art-journal-tutorial-with-dylusions

Art Journal with Dylusions Ink Sprays (Marjie Kemper)

Our feature artist – Marjie Kemper

I’m so happy to introduce you to the lovely Marjie Kemper. I’ve been following Marjie online for a good while now and always feel inspired by her creatively colourful work.

MarjieKemper

Tell us a little bit about yourself …

I’m a mixed media artist who lives an hour outside of New York City with my husband of 22 years. We have two teenage sons… one in high school and one in college.

I teach art classes nationwide and online, and it’s my pleasure to be teaching three workshops at the Art Is You Mixed Media Art Retreat for the third year in a row this Fall.

I also have an online class with Craftsy called Inventive Ink: Colorful Mixed Media Effects that covers Distress Inks, Distress Stains, Dylusions Ink Sprays, and much more. Craftsy is a wonderful online educational platform with over 1,000 classes. You can watch the classes as many times as you like, whenever and wherever you like, and they offer lifetime access and a money-back guarantee on all their courses, so you can’t go wrong. Sign up for my newsletter and you’ll automatically receive a discount if you’d like to try it out.

I love art journaling, working on canvases, collage, assemblage and scrapbooking.

I maintain an active blog and my website hosts hundreds of tutorials. I’m also active on social media and addicted to Pinterest, so please find me on the platforms of your choice.

Later this year I’ll be launching new online class content for small business owners (especially artists and teachers) that I’m very excited about. I’ll continue with my art and with this new endeavor I’ll be making the ‘behind-the-scenes’ aspects of it more transparent, hopefully helping others by sharing what I’ve learned since I started my business in 2011. Please sign up for my newsletter to find out when the new content is available.

What is your favourite quote?

My favourite quote is “Whatever you are, be a good one.”

Colour Me Positive – Week 33

CMP_Banner_Wk33

Today is a brief post. Life has been very busy lately but full of wonderful people and experiences. I am very blessed and grateful for my life. I’m also excited about the possibilities that each new day can bring.

Anthony Robbins once said “What we can or cannot do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.”  Those beliefs are often based on what society sees as normal or conventional. But why do we need to be part of the masses?

Let’s be brave and move away from the expectations of normal and allow ourselves to be extraordinary instead. Start dreaming but learn and take action, stretch your comfort zones, embrace opportunities, have authentic loving relationships with those around you, and live with passion, enthusiasm and gratitude. Be extraordinary.

Colour Me Positive- Week 31

CMP_Banner_Wk31

Today the Lulu Art team is right in the middle of an amazing art retreat called the Australian Mixed Media Roadshow today. This is only Day Two of the retreat but already there is magical art being created and many new friendships being made.

It has been a massive reminder to me how rich our lives are when we not only have beautiful friends in our lives, but those friends really “get” us and continue to lift us up with their love, encouragement and inspiration. They make our lives SPARKLE.

“First day of Art Is You and it’s everything I hoped it would be…and more! The most wonderful art retreat where magic happens, encouraged and guided by generous and talented teachers; sharing with like minded artists, most of whom have become good friends; where time is spent in a safe, nurturing, holistic environment.

I feel so grateful and blessed to have found the wonderful Sallianne McClelland and her amazing faculty and I will never miss an Art Is You, it’s just the best creative time anyone could wish for. Sign me up to the next one, Sal!” – Barbara Hodges

Colour Me Positive – Week 30

This week our fabulous feature artist is Shelley McDonald and she has given us some inspiration and a favourite quote for us. Make sure you scroll down to read all about Shelley and her colourful artwork.

I love this quote and love to think that our CREATIVITY is so valuable.

Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:

Tell us what creativity means to you.

This weeks inspiration:

This is a piece of art created by Shelley which she has had made into a cushion cover. I hope it inspires you with it’s colour and fun.

Our feature artist – Shelley McDonald

So happy to introduce you to this weeks feature artist, the lovely Shelley McDonald – Creatologist.

ShelleyMcDonald

Tell us a little bit about yourself …

Creative since birth and living in a perpetual state of mental escapism, Shelley started off working in Film and Commercial Advertising before running her own Ad Agency. It took a while, but she soon realised what she really wanted to do was make art, not write ad copy…. And after a collage workshop she discovered her inner glue stick – things really took off! Returning to study for a few years (visual and fine arts), Shelley established her own teaching studio – the creatology studio in Brisbane where she runs mixed media art classes, specialist workshops in creativity development and has her own line of quirky art cushions. She was also a founding member of the Creative Activists – who’s aim was to develop group exhibitions and events that were inclusive but also gave back to charities or causes in need. After hosting several international art tours, this year, Shelley is travelling to Mexico on a pilgrimage to the home of Frida Khalo – a long term muse, with the hope of taking future artists on a Mexican inspired art tour….

Shelley describes her art style as “Bricolage” (a fabulous French term which means ‘spontaneous creativity’ and a willingness to use and make do with whatever materials one happens to come across). Shelley is passionate about teaching creativity which she believes is a skill we all have and one that can be well and truly developed! Not one to stick with a solo medium, Shelley believes the creative process is the focus and not always the end product which has resulted in an eclectic base of works and skills.

What is your favourite quote?

All who are creative, in whatever way, are doing something very important to the well being of the world. ~ Sandra Chantry

I used this quote on my webpage once and Sandra actually sent me an email because she came across my webpage and read her own quote on it! She was so excited and we ended up corresponding for a while – she is a retired American nun but also a very dedicated artist…. I love this story – not only did her quote inspire me but the lady herself ended up being even more so!

What inspires you?

I am inspired by so many things but mostly creative and eccentric women of the past serve as my muses… Frida Khalo, Vali Myers, Emile Floge, Luisa Casati, Marie Antoinette – give me a girl with a story and let the creative processes flow….. I call these women my goddesses of creativity – I just tap into their collective creative energy and something magical happens …
