The Making of a Christmas Creature – Laurie Caradonna

A Mixed Media Art Lesson – Christmas Creature theme

Christmas Creature

This year I have had to forego displaying my beautiful christmas tree due to this naughty Monkey.

Naughty Monkey

I am sure you can see why..

Instead I have created a fun front door decoration to ensure our house is full of Christmas cheer – without the destruction.

Jump right in and view the making of one of my Little creatures using a variety of mixed media techniques.

Watch this Christmas Creature frolics to life with a dash of colour and a heavy dose of glitter, putting that magical time of year in full swing!

Cheeky Santa by Loren Boyd

LorenHi all, my name is Loren Boyd and welcome to my very first video as part of the Lulu Art Design Team.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I love to decorate my whole house with anything associated with Santa.  I love all the joy, creativity and giving that comes with Christmas so I thought I would create a canvas you could hang or give as a gift.  I hope you have as much fun creating this cheeky old chap as I did.

Birds Flying High – an art journal page by Robyn Wood

RobynAn art journal page using a random,  messy, Gelli print background ~

Hello, it’s Robyn joining you today to share a mixed media art journal page. I have to admit to being a huge fan of Michael Buble, I’ve seen him in concert each time he has visited Australia. When I started playing with this project, as usual I had no idea in mind just started playing with images and backgrounds – popping the birds on the page caused these lyrics from Feeling Good to come to mind.

The song itself is such a happy one, check out the lyrics online if you aren’t sure how it goes. I think it also describes the practice of mindfulness – enjoying all the little things in life by taking notice.

What are you feeling good about today? Take notice of one small, good thing and think about it for a few minutes. You will be glad you did!

I started with a tiny cheat for creating this page – the basis of the background was already done during a long past Gelli printing session. I tend to keep an art journal and scrap paper close to mop up all the extra paint from my plate in between prints. These pages become starting points for future pages.  I’ve learnt that for best results I keep to one set of colours, either warm or cool with maybe a pop of a complementary colour if it seems to work.
