Colour Me Positive – Week 17

Welcome to Week 17.

OldWaysNewDoors

I find it odd that people tend to do something over and over again, exactly the same way, hoping to get a different result and wonder why the results are the same. I’ve been guilty of doing this. Have you? This week try doing something differently, if you’re wanting a different result. Good luck.

Extra Challenge:

For an extra challenge this week. Add text to your door. Write down all the things you could do differently to help you open the door you’re currently have your eye on.

For those of you who would like daily or alternative prompts, I have prepared a Daily Journal Prompt List. You can find it in the Facebook Group under Files.

Colour Me positive – Week 15

Welcome to Week 15. This week is all about BALANCE. With the Easter long weekend here, I thought this message was very appropriate.

Balance

I don’t know about you, but I can not sit and do nothing. I can’t even watch T.V without art journaling at the same time. I always have a million things that need to be done.  Whether it be the hundreds of ideas in my head that I want to bring to fruition, or the household chores that are calling out to be done or my art business and customers that need my attention or the gazillion things you do for your family, especially as a Mum.

However, everyone needs to stop, relax and unwind every once in a while. It’s essential. You’re no good to anyone if all you do is go, go, go, all of the time. Burnout usually follows if you don’t allow yourself the time to relax, unwind, reset, chill out, de-stress, clear your mind, refocus, etc.

So take the time this long Easter weekend to step back from the hustle and bustle of your daily life and rest up. The world will not come crashing down if you stop for a breath. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for the people around you.

I hope you have a wonderfully relaxing, but very creative Easter long weekend.

Extra Challenge:

For an extra challenge this week. Why not write a list of all the things that you do or that need to be done and prioritise them, so that when life goes back to normal, after this long weekend, you are in a better, more organised state to begin again from.

Try using this list as collaged pieces in your background or write them straight onto your journal page.

For those of you who would like daily or alternative prompts, I have prepared a Daily Journal Prompt List. You can find it in the Facebook Group under Files.

Colour Me Positive – Week 9

Welcome to week 9. This week is about LAUGHTER.

agoodlaugh

Did you know that while you are in the process of laughing, all your worries during that moment are no longer there?  It is not possible to laugh and worry at the same time.

“Laughter is clinically proven to have a powerful and positive effect on physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing.  It heals and renews the human body and mind, and nothing works faster or more dependably to bring the mind and body back into balance.

Laughter is clinically proven to:

  1. Boost the immune system. Laughing improves the body’s natural defense mechanism by increasing the amount of immunoglobulin’s and T cell’s in the body.
  2. Reduce the risk of heart disease. Laughing expands the inner walls of the arteries which increases the ability of blood to flow around the body, and, this positive effect lasts for up to 45 minutes after the laughter has stopped.
  3. Decrease stress. Laughing instantly reduces the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine (adrenaline) and dopamine, and increases the production of serotonin and endorphins which reduce effects of stress.
  4. Can assist as a mild anti-depressant. Laughter boosts the production of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant.  Laughter also works as an effective distraction from things that cause anxiety and anger.
  5. Reduce blood pressure. When you laugh, the blood flow increases, circulation improves and your blood pressure rises.  When you stop laughing, your blood pressure drops back to its baseline. This relaxing effect helps to lower your baseline blood pressure.
  6. Is a natural painkiller. There are a number of studies which validate the pain relieving effects of laughter.  Studies show that watching comedy films assists both children and adults to tolerate pain more easily.
  7. Massage the abdominal organs. Belly laughing effectively ‘massages’ the abdominal organs.  The blood flow to these organs is increased and their functioning is improved.
  8. Help keep diabetes under control. A recent study showed that people who watched a funny video after meal had lower blood sugar levels than those who watched a serious film.  It could be that laughter affects the neuroendocrine system, which monitors the body´s glucose levels, or it may be the effect of energy used by the stomach muscles.
  9. Make you look younger. As many as 15 facial muscles work together to help you smile and laugh. This increases the blood flow around the face, bringing the circulation into even the smallest of capillaries which, in turn, helps to make you look younger and healthier.
  10. Re-energize the mind and body. Laughing forces air out of lungs, and causes us to take deep inward breaths, increasing the flow of oxygen right around the body.
  11. Build resilience. The ability to laugh, or at least smile, when times get tough, is the best way to reduce stress and anxiety.  While a little stress actually helps to motivate us into action and to focus on the problem, laughter helps us to focus on the solution and achieve more productive outcomes.
  12. Aid with sleep. Having a good laugh prior to sleep reduces stress and anxiety, promoting deep, restful sleep. Laughter also provides a mild aerobic workout, which, not only  energizes you in the short term, but also helps you to sleep better.
  13. Bond us to others. Laughter causes the release of oxytocin.  Often called the empathy hormone, oxytocin helps bond individuals and groups together.  A little laughter is great for building great teams, be they in the community or at work.
  14. Is contagious. Laughing not only lifts our spirits but also the spirit of those around us.  Happy people lift the spirit of those around them.  Remember, a smile or laugh shared is a smile or laugh doubled.”

Above text from www.letslaugh.com.au

This week I challenge you to find the funniest joke you can find or the funniest picture and show someone. Spread the laughter.

Colour Me Positive – Week 7

Welcome to week 7. This week is about PROGRESS.

snail-2

Did you know that one step forward, no matter how small your feet, no matter how short your stride, even if you crawl, is still a forward motion. Only those who quit and stop moving will not reach their destination or goal.

At times we feel that we’re not making any progress whatsoever, but it’s not until we monitor or self reflect that we notice how far we’ve actually come. If you ever feel like you’re not making any progress, look back at where you started. It’s a good idea, every once in a while to write down all our accomplishments for the previous year. It’s not until we sit down and truly think about what we have done, do we notice our accomplishments. Make sure you celebrate every accomplishment, even if it’s little.

I often feel like I’m continually moving but not really getting anywhere. Does this sound like you? It’s not until I write down my accomplishments, do I realise that there have been so many. Things that I have forgotten about or overlooked. Things that were little but have  aided my journey none the less.

When you first start moving towards your goal, you may not leap off the starting blocks and you may not be the fastest, but that doesn’t matter! What does matter is that you’re taking an important step to improve and that’s a huge accomplishment. Take pride in the fact that you’re taking your life in your own hands, no matter what it is you’re trying to accomplish, no matter how small, no matter what pace you are going.

This week I challenge you to sit down and write a list of all the things you have accomplished in the last 12 months. Really think. Write them all down, not matter how small. I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised at all the things you have achieved. This may be the boost that you need.

If you have any suggestions on how you would like to see this challenge develop, please don’t hesitate to let me know either by commenting on this post or emailing me at admin@luluart.com.au.

Welcome to Week 6. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this week is about LOVE.

This week I want you to tell those closest to you just how much you love and appreciate them. This could be a partner, a friend, your daughter or son, your neighbour, your internet buddy, your Mum, etc. If possible, leave them a hand written note somewhere where they will come across it in their daily routine or send them a handwritten letter in the mail. Handwritten letters are so rare and even more special these days.
