Believe – Mixed Media Art Journal Page

aIMG_20190324_182143aa

Wow! April is almost here… 2019 is flying by! Makes the time that I spend creating all the more precious.

I had super fun this month, really enjoying the end results of my page.

I started with Dina Wakley Media – wallpaper – stencil in fuschia on a tangerine background. I then collaged a fab napkin that I had found with gold foil spots.

DWK-343164-2T

Next, I had a play with some texture paste flowers through an Art by Marlene stencil by The Crafter’s Workshop – TCW691 – Songful Flowers

Once I had those done… the Christine Adolph flower stamps by Prima just took over!

PR-364406-2Hope you enjoy how my page turned out as much as I did.

Just Delightful – Mixed Media Art Journal Page

So lovely to be back here at Lulu Art for 2019… !!

Back into my journal again… and you know I love to splash the paint around in there!
So… considering that I will be working closely with the “Art by Marlene” brand this year and Lulu Art stocks such a wide range of her lovely products, I thought I would grab one of her stencils, and a couple of Studio Light stamps in her range and see where we end up.

First I scribbled on some Liquitex black gesso (a staple for me) and then went at it with this gorgeous TCW (The Crafter’s Workshop) stencil TCW811 – floral statement

TCW-487707-2TUsing Dina Wakley heavy body acrylics in cheddar, eggplant, fuschia and turquosie I set to working up a background.

Then with these two stamps, I created this little story.

Perfect Attitude – Mixed Media Art Journal Page

Hello again, sweet Lulu Art peeps!

20181202_163334b

It has been hectic in our household this last few weeks with the wrap up of the school year. My girls finish school tomorrow though! (Cheering… can’t wait for the holidays!!).

So I grabbed a few moments to unwind this weekend and put together this page with a few supplies I picked up at Lulu Art.

I never really know where I am heading when I start out on an art journey. I just begin with a bundle of goodies and one of the many Dylusions journals. I try to slap some paint down pretty quickly so I don’t get any chances to overthink what I am doing. I choose whichever colour speaks to me on the day. The Dina Wakley ~ Fuschia has been calling my name a lot lately!

TCW-487706-2T

With this page, I rough stencilled over with lime green using the ‘Blooming Garden’ stencil by TCW. I can see that this will be one of my favourites for a while… all those pretty flowers just make a lovely background. I next painted with my sponge through the stencil to highlight each of the stencils features.

Washi was next… anyone else is addicted to washi? I have so many of these little rolls of goodness and take any opportunity to get them out. This pink dot on green roll is from the #4 Dina Wakley washi set and it didn’t disappoint!
(The #3 set is equally as great… #justsayin !!)

So once I could see two big round flowers, the page took on a life of its own… you can check out the finished page and the process video below.

Butterfly – Mixed Media Art

Hello everyone!

This month I thought I would create something out of my journal for a change. I had noticed some great 8×8″ cradled wood boards that Kylie has in store and thought I would give them a go.

cradled board

I really love working on such a smooth surface! Quite different from a canvas, I enjoy how sturdy and versatile the working area is. It takes collage and pencil work very well and really does just leave it up to your imagination as to what you can create.

I also wanted to try out the beautiful Darkroom Door – 9×12 butterflies stencil.

butterfly stencil

These come in 2 different sizes (4.5×6″ & 9×12″) but I really loved the size of this large one. I can see this one being used quite a bit as I explore the positive & negative spaces that the stencil/mask combination allows.

So, along with some collage fodder… off I adventured!

Hope you give this journal page a try.

Hearts & Flowers – Mixed Media Art Journal Page

jungle11.jpgHello lovelies!!

Are you all totally crushing as hard as I am on Marlene Meijer-van Niekerk new range that Kylie has in store at Lulu Art currently? I just had to feature another of her stencils in this month’s tutorial… and one of her new rubber stamps aswell…

… LOVING THEM !!

Using Dina Wakley heavy body acrylics in Eggplant, Ocean, Turquoise and Sedona, I started my page with a different colour combination than I would usually. A bit of stenciling and rubber stamping around the edges of my page began to flesh out where I wanted to go with the colours.

stencil2

Cheddar Scribble stick brought it all together and I finished with some hearts and doodles and finally some sweet words using Tim Holtz Ideaology stickers.

cheddar.pngReally there isn’t much more to it than that!

Blossom – Mixed media art journal page

Hello lovelies!!

A super quick journal page today, especially for anyone who is a little shy about drawing.

blossom4

I thought I would put together a page using Jane Davenport’s ‘Whimsical Girls’ book that you can purchase from Lulu Art.

The book is designed with tear out pages and different types of paper so you can work right onto them and cut them out, add them to your journal pages, or in fact, journal right within the book… so many pretty images to choose from!

whimsy book
I was also itching to use TCWs new mini botanical stencil designed by Marlene Meijer-van Niekerk. Lulu Art now has the full range of Marlene’s new products and I can’t wait to get my hands on those either.

I have already made a number of pages with this stencil… just so pretty!

Finally, I added Christine Adolf’s ‘Poppyfield’ stamp by Prima.
