This week is all about EXPANDING yourself. How will you know if you can achieve that goal if you don’t give it a try. I personally love the planning stage of any new project. Making notes and lists and planning it all out. But then I find the hardest part for me is taking the first step! Is this you too?
It’s so important to take that next step before the fear sets in and we give up because we fear failure. Then take another small step, then another. You’ll never know if it will be a success unless you give it a try. Expand your wings now, see how far you can fly!
Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:
Put some wings somewhere on your page.
If you need a reminder how the challenge works go have another look at the Intro page.
This weeks inspiration:
Today’s inspiration is by Monika Dabrowska-Ejmont from Green Kitten Art. There is a link after the photo where you can watch a video about how this was constructed.

Our Feature Artist – Ivy Newport
This weeks feature artist is the lovely Ivy Newport! Ivy has some fabulous online classes out there and also hosts some amazing retreats. Do yourself a favour and check them out (links are below).
Tell us a bit about yourself ..
I was born in Sydney, Australia and spent most of my childhood there. Life in Sydney was amazing and I grew up doing Art in the Aussie sunshine! You could usually find me in the garden painting, drawing or reading. We had the opportunity to travel overseas often and this inspired me greatly. I have a deep love of adventure and travel! My father was transferred back to the States in my Junior year so I ended up finishing high school in Connecticut. Being six feet tall and having an Australian accent, it was tough to fit in but I found my home in the AP Art room and owe so much to my amazing Art Teacher! After graduating, I went on to attend the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida and received a BFA in Illustration.
After living in several cities, I found my home in beautiful, Portland, Oregon. My husband, Chris and I have been here for 13 years now and it has been the perfect environment in which to grow our family. We have two daughters, Grace and Claire and two cats.
Since graduating, I’ve had many different jobs – interior designer, skin care creator and antique shop owner but none of these quite fit. Now, as a full time artist and teacher I have found my true place. I have come home to Art and I’m here to stay! 🙂
What is your favourite quote?
“She was a lost bird, in a deep blue sky. But when she spread her wings, She remembered how to fly.” Atticus
What inspires you?
Many things inspire me but my top three would be bookstores, Pinterest and learning. I adore bookstores! I often go visit them when I’m looking for inspiration. Beautiful magazines, poetry and stories trigger visuals for me and spark ideas. Pinterest is just plain delicious! A visual feast for any creative and a wonderful way to build boards around a theme or painting idea. I adore learning! I’m a forever student of art and life and I take many online classes from other artists. You can never learn too much and this attitude helps keep my mind fresh and open to techniques, styles and new ways of seeing things.
Where can we find you?
Here are links to some of Ivy’s classes and retreats:
Ivy has very generously donated one free online ART CLASS of your choice from her website! Be sure to get your entries in for this week as this is an amazing prize!
We will draw a random name on Friday 1st April from those who have uploaded into the Week 12 folder by that date. So you have two weeks to complete the challenge. You can load photos into the album at any time but to be in the draw it must be by the date mentioned.
Entry is open to everyone who participates, no matter where in the world you are. It’s not a game of skill, you won’t be judged on your artwork. It will be a random draw.
Week 10 draw:
Now it’s time to draw a name from the photos loaded up into the Week 10 photo album. Today’s lucky winner is Tina Conner-Powell. Congratulations Tina! This is the page that Tina created about beauty.
It’s ok to skip a week and jump in wherever you can. Don’t feel pressured if life gets busy!
Don’t compare yourself to others. We’re all in different stages of our art journey. You’re an artist and you’re amazing no matter what level you’re at. Just have fun and keep going.
Please PM or email me if you have an urgent question as I’m more likely to see it. The facebook page moves so fast it’s so easy to miss comments.
Have fun, be happy and support one another!
