What a Hoot – Mixed Media Canvas by Loren Boyd

Loren

Loren Boyd

Hi there,

I hope you enjoy creating this mixed media owl. It was a really nice change from my usually messy process of having as many products open at once as I possibly can!!! Owls seem to be my “go to thing” at the moment as they are popping up in lots of my sketches also. They are very easy and quick to create so I think that is appealing to me too. I could not believe how fast this one came together. It was a “HOOT” to create.

Colour Me Positive – Week 13

CMP_Banner_Wk13

Today’s quote was inspired by Seth Apter (see more about Seth below) and is about seeing life with new EYES.

Remember that to discover new things about yourself, your life and your world, you don’t always have to seek new landscapes or adventures. Just change or lift your perspective a bit, and see the beauty and blessings that already lie in front you through new eyes.

Then feel that gratitude well up from within yourself.

Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:

Use an eye somewhere on your page.

If you need a reminder how the challenge works go have another look at the Intro page.

Our Feature Artist – Seth Apter

I had the pleasure of doing a couple of Seth Apter’s classes at the Art-Is-You Mixed Media Roadshow a couple of years back and it was a fabulous experience. Seriously, this is the most fun you can have at an art retreat, check it out now!

Artwork created by Seth and inspired by another favourite quote.

What is your favourite quote?

I have a quote that I love from Marcel Proust — “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

To me that is so very positive because it suggests that no matter what the circumstances, we have the ability to see thing differently and discover new things at any time.

Art Journaling for Beginners Pt2 – Rochelle Melville

Paint, paint, glorious paint! I am well known for going out shopping, to the hairdresser or even to bed with paint on my hands, elbows, in my hair and under my fingernails (why scrub it off when you’re just going to get painty again tomorrow? LOL). I love getting messy with paint, it is one of my favourite mediums to use when I art journal. Today I want to share with you Art Journaling For Beginners Part 2 showing you all about paint. If you have joined in the Colour Me Positive Art Journaling Challenge from LuluArt, this especially for you all.

Colour Me Positive – Week 12

CMP_Banner_Wk12

This week is all about EXPANDING yourself. How will you know if you can achieve that goal if you don’t give it a try. I personally love the planning stage of any new project. Making notes and lists and planning it all out. But then I find the hardest part for me is taking the first step! Is this you too?

It’s so important to take that next step before the fear sets in and we give up because we fear failure. Then take another small step, then another. You’ll never know if it will be a success unless you give it a try. Expand your wings now, see how far you can fly!

Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:

Put some wings somewhere on your page.

Tell us a bit about yourself ..

I was born in Sydney, Australia and spent most of my childhood there. Life in Sydney was amazing and I grew up doing Art in the Aussie sunshine! You could usually find me in the garden painting, drawing or reading. We had the opportunity to travel overseas often and this inspired me greatly. I have a deep love of adventure and travel! My father was transferred back to the States in my Junior year so I ended up finishing high school in Connecticut. Being six feet tall and having an Australian accent, it was tough to fit in but I found my home in the AP Art room and owe so much to my amazing Art Teacher! After graduating, I went on to attend the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida and received a BFA in Illustration.

After living in several cities, I found my home in beautiful, Portland, Oregon. My husband, Chris and I have been here for 13 years now and it has been the perfect environment in which to grow our family. We have two daughters, Grace and Claire and two cats.

Since graduating, I’ve had many different jobs – interior designer, skin care creator and antique shop owner but none of these quite fit. Now, as a full time artist and teacher I have found my true place. I have come home to Art and I’m here to stay! 🙂

What is your favourite quote?

“She was a lost bird, in a deep blue sky. But when she spread her wings, She remembered how to fly.” Atticus

What inspires you?

Many things inspire me but my top three would be bookstores, Pinterest and learning. I adore bookstores! I often go visit them when I’m looking for inspiration. Beautiful magazines, poetry and stories trigger visuals for me and spark ideas. Pinterest is just plain delicious! A visual feast for any creative and a wonderful way to build boards around a theme or painting idea. I adore learning! I’m a forever student of art and life and I take many online classes from other artists. You can never learn too much and this attitude helps keep my mind fresh and open to techniques, styles and new ways of seeing things.

Decorate your Dylusions Journal with Kathryn Cruise

LuluArt profile picHello there lovelies, Kathryn here. I hope you are having a wonderful year so far. I’m absolutely loving seeing everyones Colour Me Positive challenge pages in the facebook group. It’s so wonderful to see everyone having so much fun and sharing their pages. The support and encouragement everyone gives is heart warming and fantastic to see.

Colour Me Positive – Week 11

CMP_Banner_Wk11

Today’s quote was inspired by Chrissy Foreman Cranitch (see more about Chrissy below) and is about trusting our INTUITION.

Our intuition wants to guide and support us but we need to remember to listen and trust what it has to say. That intuitive voice can be a strong one but it often needs a quiet and calm environment before you can hear it.  When things are troubling you or there are big exciting decisions to be made .. can you slip away to a quiet place? Sit calmly and listen to what your heart, mind and gut are telling you.

Don’t ignore your feelings or push them away.  Be honest with yourself and acknowledge the feelings, they are trying to guide you. Listen to them.

Chrissy

Tell us a bit about yourself …

Hello, I’m Chrissy Foreman Cranitch, an Intuitive Artist, Teacher and Proud Mumma of Max Bear.

Many moons ago, I prided myself as a bohemian, time-rich, free-spirited Artist. All this took a BIG sidestep while I struggled to adjust to Motherhood and raising a child in 2011.
As my Life branched outwards, I realised I needed to find ways to come back home to MYSELF. That’s why my Art has transformed from making pretty pictures, into an expression of heartfelt intuitions of a Wife, Mumma and Human – even the parts I don’t always get right.

In Art and Life, the more I’ve learned to trust my Intuition, the richer my Art has become … and I’m a better Wife, Mummy and Friend because of it.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

My favourite quote is …”Trust your intuition.”

What inspires you?

Everyday moments of living. Mindfulness. Kindness. Nature. The love of my family.

Colour Me Positive – Week 10

CMP_Banner_Wk10

Today’s quote is about BEAUTY.

In todays society people tend to think of beauty as their physical appearance. We think that if we just “fit in” to the medias idea of what is good looking then we’ll feel good about ourselves and will gain acceptance. What a load of codswallop!! Your real beauty lies with what’s on the inside, who we are, our uniqueness, our kindness, our friendship, our smile, our giving nature, our laughter, our sense of fun, and so many other wonderful things!

We should feel good now about who we are because let’s face it .. we are all unique and awesome. We are beautiful both inside and out.

Tell us a little bit about yourself ..

I am an artist and an architect who loves to share what I’ve learned over the years. I live on a ranch in rural Sonoma County, California, with redwoods and a river and the ocean just down the road. My environment informs my creations and feeds my soul. I love to paint and use words in my art. I teach art, photography, jewellery-making and re-purposing, all with a meaningful dose of getting in touch with your soul. I know the deep healing power of soul work and I love to hold space and teach ways of getting in touch with our souls’ purpose. In my architecture projects, it is important to me to create spaces that people fall in love with because I know that our environment affects all aspects of our lives.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself” – Coco Chanel

There is nothing more liberating, or more beautiful, than being your genuine self. This is all about inner beauty and confidence, about celebrating who we are: unique, precious, important and sacred. I love the irony that this quote is from Coco Chanel, because it has nothing to do with fashion or appearance. It’s about blossoming into, and loving, the incredible human beings we are each meant to be.

B Original U R

Do you have some artwork inspired by this quote?

I love these two ladies, in their beautiful clothes, with flowers and gold in their hair, solemnly walking through a tropical paradise, as they honour their sacred uniqueness by gently carrying the words “u” (you) and “r” (are). This is a collage (fabric, beads) and a painting, in a repurposed thrift store frame.

What inspires you?

So many things! The promise of a new day — it is always DAY ONE! Sunshine. My amazing friends. The river and the ocean. My husband, who lives his life to the fullest, on his own terms. My dogs, our ranch animals, flowers and birds …. I am never at a loss for inspiration. For the past few years, I have been on staff at Brave Girl Camp in Idaho, where women come to learn ways to restore their souls through journalling and making art and crafts. Oh, how these women inspire me! I am now teaching an abbreviated version of those lessons at homeless shelters in my local area, because I know how this soul work literally saves lives. And the response has been phenomenal, bringing me to my knees. This work, based on journaling and getting back in touch with your true soul, changed my life and I have an urgent need to share it and help others. Later this year, as a certified teacher, I will start teaching the full Soul Restoration course at my newly remodelled art barn on our ranch.

Where can we find you?

I teach at Brave Girl University (BGU), which is an amazing online “university” that anyone can join! It is filled with all sorts of art and soul courses, writing and how-to’s and self-help, by dozens of teachers — and it’s growing exponentially! The BGU motto is “you can learn it” and the array of course offerings is mind-boggling.
