Colour Me Positive – Week 9

CMP_Banner_Wk9

Today’s quote was shared with us by Mimi Bondi (see more about Mimi below) and is about being PLAYFUL. As a child we are imaginative, curious, we play without worry, we live in the present, we have no limits to our imagination and most importantly we create with abandon!

As we grow up, in most cases, we seem to lose this childlike sense of life which is such a shame. Especially when it comes to our creativity.

We should spend more time trying to regain these qualities. Create like a child. Be wild and have fun. Be curious like a child. Live in the moment. Just do, and be.

Tell us a bit about yourself …

I am a Positive Energy Creator! Life is too short so cover your fingers in paint and let loose 😉

As an artist, teacher and author, nothing brings me more joy than when people feel the positivity, love and passion I put into every piece I create… I am here to help you explore your creative positive energy through online workshops, my book and e-course because I know you too have that amazing vibe inside you!

With hundreds of paintings hanging in homes around the world, I think can tell just by looking at it that my art reflects my passion for life and love for vibrant colours.
I believe in making art easy and fun to learn, and my light-hearted teaching style will have you wondering why you didn’t try your hand at painting sooner!

Born in a small vibrant town in France, I now feel lucky to call sunny Australia home where my loving and patient husband (and slightly crazy furry friend Poppy) ensure I will never lose my creative spark!

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

My favourite quote is …”Live like a grownup, play like a child.”

What inspires you?

I am so inspired and energised by bright and bold colours, metallic paint, stencils, stamps and anything that allows me to play and express myself creatively!

But my students’ enthusiastic feedback is what keeps me going as there is nothing more inspirational that knowing you have positively impacted someone’s life 🙂

Colour Me Positive – Week 8

CMP_Banner_Wk8

Today’s quote is all about being FEARLESS. A lot of the time fear and perfectionism go hand in hand. Especially when it comes to our  creativity. The fear of doing something well (or perfectly) can at times stop you from doing that thing at all. Your fear extorts joy and potential happiness from your life by threatening you with what might happen! You deserve to live fearless and free. My strategy is to just start and see where it takes me.

Our extra (optional) journal prompt is:

Cut out words to use on your page.

If you need a reminder how the challenge works go have another look at the Intro page.

This week we have an example page by Monika Dabrowska-Ejmont from Green Kitten Art:

Tell us a bit about yourself …

During my early painting life I mostly used acrylics, I decided I needed to do something new. So I had a few lessons from an artist who showed me the basics of watercolour. I fell in love with the freedom of playing with the paints and the water. I have painted this way ever since. My friends were loving my paintings and a few asked me to show them how to paint. Before I knew it Sunshine Coast Art Classes was born and I haven’t looked back (over 20 years).

I designed a program that could teach the BEGINNER artist to paint WATERCOLOUR in just ONE, FUN & EASY lesson.

My compositions are quite simplistic and whimsical. I love joyous colour and hope that the paintings take the viewer to a HAPPY PLACE. I was inspired early on by Ken Done a famous Australian artist. I loved his simple, bright, happy style and so I only use bright, happy colours too. My own art style has recently changed and I am now painting what’s really in my heart. By adding inspirational verse & collage, my paintings have taken on extra new meaning by helping them to tell a story. My desire when people look at my paintings that they feel uplifted and encouraged.

I decided to take the challenge of Colour me positive 2016 and have been so inspired by all the amazing art works that have graced the site. I love receiving the theme for the week and then seeing my painting evolve.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

My favourite quote is …”Face your fears and your fears will go.

I have applied this verse to many areas of my life and It has helped get through some really tough times. It has also helped me grow as an artist. By learning to take risks and be willing to think outside the square. I have become a ‘happy artist’.

One day I saw a lady standing in front of one of my paintings that I was using to advertise one of my workshops. She stood there just gazing at it. And after a while she turned to me and said ‘ Oh I could never do that’ and with that she walked away. I felt so sad for her, because I believe that she allowed her fear of failure to rob her of a beautiful experience.

What inspires you?

Being an art tutor for more than 20 years has become my greatest joy. I just love inspiring the beginner artist and helping them to find the freedom in using the ‘wet on wet watercolour technique’. I believe that Art should be a joyous experience, a place where we can go to escape the storms of life or just to create a painting to brighten up our home.

Most readers will be familiar with the wonderful world of Pokemon…. but what is a Paper Child?

Paper Children live Somewhere between comics, cartoons, and real life.

They are paper cut-out models of anime characters, 2D drawings, thrown into 3D space, often mischievous, and always adorable.

Pokemon celebrate 20 years of greatness this month. So I thought it was perfect timing to create a Lulu Art tutorial – for all of the little Pokemon Masters out there.

Colour Me Positive – Week 7

CMP_Banner_Wk7

I am really loving all your beautiful pages from last week that were created based on kindness. Some were accompanied by lovely stories as well which are always a pleasure to read. Please keep on sharing.

With Valentine’s Day this week it only seemed right to use a quote that used the word heart 🙂 Today’s quote is all about putting your whole HEART into things.  If you’re going to do something, no matter how big or small, do it with your whole heart! Go with all your heart, do it with all your heart, say it with all your heart and most importantly love with all your heart. Live your life fully and deliberately.

Flowers for Everyone by Loren Boyd

Loren

Well I have no idea where that time between this and my last project has gone. Each day just rolls around and tends to blend into the next but remember to always keep a little “me” time to soothe the soul with some art. This time I have chosen a very quick and easy project painting a set of flowers, because everyone loves to receive flowers……..right!!!

I hope you enjoy creating them whether they are for a gift or yours to keep.

Colour Me Positive – Week 6

CMP_Banner_Wk6

Today’s quote is all about KINDNESS. In the dictionary the definition of kindness is “the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.  I find kindness to be one of those happiness paradoxes – where we become happier by making other people happier.

Your simple acts of kindness could make a huge difference to someone. When we’re kind, we show someone that they mean something to us. Even if they are a stranger, we’re saying: your life matters.  What kind thing can you do today?

Let’s make a difference!

Today I wanted to chat to you about an organisation that I have been involved with for many years now. They are called Kiva.  Through Kiva you can make a small loan to a developing world entrepreneur who is looking to support their family and send their kids to school. You get to choose who you loan the money to and they repay the money over a period of time. When it’s paid back you can either lend it out to someone else or withdraw it back to yourself.

I love this system! You are helping someone to help themselves which is so much more valuable than donating to an aid organisation where a large proportion gets eaten up in admin fees. With Kiva the whole amount goes to the recipient and you know exactly what it is being used for.

We have just set up a “Colour Me Positive” team page on Kiva.org and would love you to join us make a difference in some peoples lives!

It is a way of feeling like you’re making a difference and doing so in a way that encourages economic activity which ultimately will provide more employment to support the economy. It’s a very small investment which will be repaid, then it can be used to loan out to another entrepreneur. Make sure you check it out and join our team. Let’s see what sort of difference we can make together!!

Week 6 Challenge Prize:

CMP_Prize_Wk6This weeks prize is another set of beautiful inspirational books and notepads that were kindly donated to us by the wonderful people at www.compendium.com.au – you really should check out all the wonderful inspiring things they have on their website!

Beginners Art Journal Page with Rochelle Melville

RochelleI’ve watched many people participating in the Colour Me Positive Art Journaling Challenge comment that they don’t know how to get started, or they lack confidence so I thought I’d run a few tutorials on art journal basics.  This first introduction to art journaling is using products I use on nearly every single page such as stencils, ink sprays and paint.  Please know you don’t have to draw to art journal, I rarely do!

Hope this helps you get started art journaling but more importantly I hope you find art as much of a healing, comforting and quiet place as I do!
